President of Chad Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno has instructed the government to suspend the granting of visas to U.S. nationals.
"I have instructed the government to act in accordance with the principles of reciprocity and suspend the granting of visas to citizens of the United States of America. Chad has neither planes to offer, nor billions of dollars to give, but Chad has its dignity and pride," the Chadian president announced Thursday on his social media.
The decision came after U.S. President Donald Trump signed a proclamation on Wednesday to ban travel from certain countries, including Chad, citing national security risks.
